Koi being terrorized again by snowplow

It's snowing here again and again I watch in horror as my koi are terrorized by the snowplow as it goes back and forth clearing the road. They swim franticly, using up precious stored resources with hardly enough time to settle down before it makes another pass.

    Sorry.

They will get used to it. My koi used to freak when the tractors went by. Now they barely acknowledge their existence.

My fish do not like helicopters. They panic big time. I am near the military training area, and between 2 major hospitals. So I see my share. But you have much colder water than I do.

I don't think so.The situation is a little different here. The snowplow pounds the pavement and the water is just 45F.They don't get used to it.
Does anyone take into consideration ways to soundproof when they build a pond?I want to go bigger this coming summer and am definately open to suggestion.

I do not know if you can. I think the vibration will still be there, no matter what.

Can you put out a sign that says

Do you have air pumps going? Maybe increasing the air will help absorb some of the vibration.

Can you build the new pond further away from the street?

I don't know how degradeable the sheets of insulation are but you may be able to put layers of that and carpet or carpet padding between the liner and the ground. It won't do away with all the vibrations but it should substantially cut down on them.

Sandy air bubblers are a great idea. Sort of a "noise cancellation" technique.

No can do,Sandy Pond's far to the back of my lot now.Don't own an air pump but I do have a small circulation pump running just below the surface to aid in gas exchange.

I'd get an air pump ... sort of "white noise" for the fish. Poor things

Maybe I'm glad I can't see mine. Snowplows haven't been out a lot this year, but I sure hate to think of them dashing around in 38-39 degree water because of it. I can't say I noticed them with vehicles driving right next to the pond last summer. Wonder if the pond being 1/2 out of the ground makes a difference??

Bill, you need to turn that camera off before it drives you nuts .

I'd say go with some background noise like an air pump. Keep the air stones near the surface. Ya don't need much, one of the $25 aquarium pumps would do.

Do you have some sort of house they can hide in? We have 2 milk crates on their side with rocks inside and a slab of slat ontop. That might help keep some of the vibration down. It's bad to get them stressed when it's cold or anytime for that matter.

Saw this bumped up again and was wondering if anyone has tried music on their koi? I checked into underwater speakers but price was out of sight. It's been said that even (some) plants respond to music and do better. Just a thought.

I played WMHT local classical music station on the radio 24/7 for my fish in the basement since last October. They were moved outside Tues.
I am looking into how to get their radio outside bc I really believe they like it.
I think we had an uneventful winter down there bc they were less stressed with the music. Just MHO.

For my QT fish (in garage) I play modern country western 24/7/365. Ever see a Ochiba do a square dance?

Mondays are garbage truck day for my street. They sometimes bang the ground hard enough to create a shock wave, plus the backup beeping at 1000 db. It's the garbage trucks that give my crew a jump...
